About Scott

Scott Head

From an early age Scott has been blessed with both the gifts of international travel and diverse musical environments. Scott grew up primarily in the Colombia River Gorge, with the magnificent natural backdrop there being his first and continued source of musical inspiration. His father, a French horn player and his older brother, a now professional Trombonist, instilled a love and fascination of Brass, Classical, and Jazz from day one. With picking up the trumpet at the age of 10 and the guitar at 11, by junior high Scott was performing at school and community functions both in groups and solo.

It was around this early age that Scott came to meet the Benavides family. Immigrated from Chile first generation, this musically gifted family would come to have great influence on developing Scott's appreciation, knowledge, and skills in Latin and Folkloric music, as well as Classical Spanish Guitar.

He excelled in School on the trumpet, especially in the jazz band, being the only high school student for a period to join the professional, 'White Salmon Jazz' while he also developed himself on multiple instruments from a young age. Playing the guitar, percussion, trumpet, French Horn, flute, and singing Scott always managed to be pinned as the one in the band to jump around the stage from song to song switching instruments!

At 15 years of age Scott traveled to Brazil and Chile with the Benavides Family, performing and culturally immersing every where they went. Scott came back to the states with an insatiable drive to travel and discover. The next 6 years would take Scott through 7 different countries, all with guitar on back, living, studying, and performing in such places as Spain, Portugal, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Cuba.

Each landing back in the states brought about another musical project including leading the horn section, providing guitar work, vocals, and flute for a nine-piece Latin funk band, 'Luna Rise'. A project from his earlier days performing, Scott co-wrote much of its original material. As a founder and member in this band he traveled throughout the Northwest performing regularly for many Outdoor Festivals, Events, and Concerts.

Scott then co-wrote and performed original material in a Latin Classical Guitar Duet, 'El Duet', based out of Hood River, Oregon for 2 years. Performing in the Gorge's Fine Dining scene and for Special Events he and his partner explored and dazzled with Classical Spanish and Mediteranean style guitar duet pieces.

Amidst these years Scott was very involved with the Native American community here in the Pacific Northwest, singing as a ceremonial singer for different ceremonies and occasions. This path took him deep into a foreign country right here in our own back yard; Native America- and also up and down the length of the North American West Coast. This singing and cultural lifestyle has been monumental in his exposure to cultural bridge-ways of music. From both this influence as well as his world travels Scott has developed a deep passion to open the doorways of culture, consciousness, and understanding through his music and work as a performer.

Currently in Portland, with Musica Melodia, his unique and innovative solo performance, Scott brings his life experience and musical abilities into one creative expression. Using live looping to showcase different instrumentation throughout this world odyssey presentation of cultural music, Scott can be seen playing regularly in some of Portland's fine dining icons and has a busy schedule with Private/Corporate Events and Weddings here in the Northwest.

Very soon to release his first Studio and Video projects Scott is also currently working on a more globally focused music education program as well as a multi media children's book project!

Being active and involved with music Scott, more than anything, is the Father of two beautiful children and married to one beautiful wife. They all live, play, and grow in SE Portland.
